Attendance

Year 12 & 13 Student Absence Reporting Procedure

Please see below the procedure for reporting a sixth form student absent.  It is important that all absences are reported to the sixth form desk regardless of the circumstances.

An absence is any reason that a student will not be present in school, which include, but are not exclusive to the following - sickness, medical appointments, university visits, driving tests/lessons or compassionate leave.

  • All absences must be reported as soon as possible in the morning and before 8.30 by a parent or guardian, students are not to report their own absence  regardless of age.

  • Absences must be reported to the sixth form administrator, even if an email or message has been sent to a teacher or tutor

  • There are two ways of reporting an absence to the administrator, either by phoning 01761 402280, this is the direct line to the MSN Sixth Form where you can leave a message 24 hours a day or speak to a member of the team between 08.30 - 16.30 Monday - Thursday and   Friday between 08.30 - 16.00.  You can also email sixthformadmin@msnsixth.com

  • When leaving a message or sending an email, please include the student’s full name, tutor group, date of absence and the reason they are not attending school.

  • If you need to speak to someone, please state this and leave an appropriate contact number

  • If a student is unwell at school and needs to go home, they must come to the sixth form desk so we can sign them out, we will also call home to inform someone

  • Driving lessons should be taken in free periods only

  • Students are required to attend school every day even if they do not have any lessons, they should be in the sixth form centre or the library studying.

  • PM tutor should be attended by students on site and by all students on a Monday and Friday.

  • Studying from home is permitted, but only when pre agreed and recorded by tutors not when the student feels like taking it

If students are not reported absent in the correct way, their absence from school may be marked as unauthorised and therefore go against their attendance.

It is important that we know where students are for various reasons including fire regulations, wellbeing and safeguarding, so please help by following this procedure.

Any questions, please send an email to the sixth form admin email address.
